Why does helping an NGO transform at least two lives?

When someone decides to support an NGO, the impact goes far beyond a financial donation or time commitment. Helping a social project is a gesture that transforms at least two lives: that of the person receiving the support and that of the person choosing to lend a hand.

For those who receive it, support represents dignity, opportunity, and a new beginning. These are children who now have access to education, elderly people who once again feel seen and cared for, women who discover new ways to generate income, families who find shelter in times of extreme vulnerability. Each social project carries real stories of overcoming adversity, rebuilding, and hope.
Throughout our journey, we see this up close in ABMTHS's partner NGOs. Lives that changed when they found a safe space to learn, when they received support to rebuild a home, when they were welcomed in their pain, or when they discovered that they still had much to offer the world.
These are stories that remind us that social work does not just deliver services, it restores meaning, belonging, and self-esteem. And how many stories like this have we already told here?
But there is also a second transformed life: that of those who help. Supporting a social project broadens one's perspective, strengthens values, and creates deep connections with realities that often go unnoticed.
Those who support come to understand that small actions, when done together, generate big changes. Involvement with a social cause humanizes, inspires, and leaves marks that no material goods can replace.

This was the case for Antonia Canté Negrão, whose life changed when she learned about the work done by the Candida Bermejo Camargo Center in Taboão da Serra, São Paulo, to care for children with cancer.
For over 20 years, she was the housekeeper at the CBC and became an integral part of the history of everyone who passed through there, as well as the history of the center itself.
About a year ago, she was forced to step away from her mission for health reasons, and while this newsletter was being produced (on February 22, 2026), she passed away.
But her legacy of strength, love, and dedication to others will always be remembered by everyone who was welcomed by this warrior woman!
The benefits of supporting a social project are collective. Stronger communities, more supportive relationships, and a future built with more justice and empathy. Every contribution, whether time, resources, or publicity, strengthens an entire network of care and transformation.
ABMTHS believes that no one can change the world alone. It is through the sum of efforts, in partnership with committed CSOs and the engagement of people who believe in the common good, that change happens.
Only those who have helped in a social action know the value of a hug, a smile, a letter from someone whose life has been transformed. Because helping an NGO transforms the lives of those who receive, but even more so those who help, and everything that is built from this encounter between lives that come together connected by the same purpose: to build a different and much better future in the present!
