Having a place to call home is much more than just having a roof over one’s head. A home represents security, stability, and the foundation on which a person can rebuild their life with dignity. For those living in vulnerable situations, regaining this right also means regaining hope for the future.

It is in this context that the work of social organizations and projects makes all the difference. Initiatives such as the “Levanta-te e Anda” Project in Salvador, Bahia, are specifically designed to support people who, for various reasons, have lost or never had access to decent housing. More than just offering one-time assistance, the project works to give people the chance to start over.
By providing the conditions for families and individuals to rebuild their lives, these initiatives help restore something essential: - A sense of belonging and dignity. Having a safe home means being able to plan for tomorrow, care for one’s family, and pursue dreams that often seemed impossible.
Projects like “Levanta-te e Anda” demonstrate, in practice, that social transformation begins when one person reaches out to another. And that providing decent housing also means giving people back the opportunity to get back on their feet and move forward, as the “architects” of their own stories.

When we reflect on the importance of ensuring a decent home—a welcoming space where people can participate in society—we can draw a parallel with the effort to “get back on one’s feet” and move toward a fuller, safer, and more dignified life.
This journey, both literal and symbolic, reflects each person’s effort to overcome obstacles, rebuild social ties, and seek—with community and collective support—the conditions necessary to live in society.
