When the Moon meets childhood

Amid colorful lanterns and dragons, folk dancing, and the aroma of traditional Chinese foods, the children of the Girassol Project of the Brazil-China Education Charity Association (ABEBC) experienced a true cultural journey, filled with learning and joy.

It was a day of discovery, in which the glow of the full moon was reflected in the eyes of each of them—curious, enchanted, and open to immersion in Chinese culture and tradition.

Through drama and dance, they told a story from Chinese tradition in three different languages. The children performed on stage at the Chinese Moon Festival, which takes place every year on 25 de Março Street in São Paulo.

In Brazil, October is traditionally the month dedicated to children. It is a time when we celebrate the joy, innocence, and beauty of childhood. However, more than just a time for celebration, it is also an invitation to reflect: What kind of future are we building for our children, especially those born into vulnerable circumstances?

For thousands of poor children, social inequality still limits dreams and opportunities. It is in this scenario that education becomes the key that can open doors, change stories, and transform destinies.

Contact with other cultures—such as Chinese culture, celebrated at this festival—broadens horizons and encourages mutual respect, solidarity, and a sense of belonging to the community. Through artistic and cultural expressions, such as dance and learning new languages and traditions, the Girassol Project encourages children to re-enter and remain in the educational system, ensuring spaces for socialization, affection, and growth.

Seeing the children on stage at this festival, showing what they have learned and rehearsed since the beginning of the year, is giving each of them the chance to grow with dignity and develop their potential.

It is much more than offering games for their day; it is sowing values. Educating a child is investing in social justice and breaking the cycle of poverty, giving them wings so they can realize their dreams and build a different tomorrow.

This October, as we celebrate childhood, ABMTHS is proud to support ABEBC's Girassol Project, and together we reaffirm our commitment to offering all children a quality education that is inclusive and full of hope.
