The Nuns of the Nossa Senhora da Paz Monastery live the Benedictine Spirituality according to the Order of Saint Benedict. This spirituality draws on three sources of life in the Spirit: the Liturgy, Lectio Divina (Sacred Scripture) and the Rule of Saint Benedict.

The community, aware that the Eucharist is the culmination of the Liturgy of Christian life, gathers daily for the Eucharistic Celebration.

Liturgy of the Hours
Celebrated seven times and continued by individual prayer throughout the day, it is a strong time in the nuns' prayer life, who manifest their appreciation for it through an active and prayerful presence. The life of continuous prayer is not an escape from daily realities, but an encounter with the truths of human existence, in the deepest part of the being. The nuns begin their early morning worship and while almost the whole town is asleep, they are already up and praying, thanking God for the gifts He bestows on men and interceding on their behalf.
Simplified Gregorian melodies adapted to Portuguese allow the participation of guests and visitors and give the Office of the Monastery a peaceful beauty, which easily introduces you to the intimacy of God.

Lectio Divina
The nuns dedicate time daily to the meditated reading of Sacred Scripture – Lectio Divina – and to other spiritual readings, a path to contemplation and communion with God.

Rule of Saint Benedict
The nuns of the Nossa Senhora da Paz Monastery live according to the Rule of Saint Benedict, the third source of Benedictine spirituality, together with the liturgy and lectio divina. It was written in Latin by Saint Benedict, at the beginning of the 6th century. There are several editions and translations of the Rule or RB as it is commonly called.
