Enquanto a vacinação contra a Covid-19 avança lentamente no país, a pandemia escancara e amplifica outras doenças sociais que atingem milhões de brasileiros todos os anos. A fome é uma delas, e segue sendo implacável com os mais vulneráveis país afora.
"Minha mãe trabalha só duas vezes na semana e o que ganha não é suficiente. Inclusive, esta cesta básica vai ajudar em muito, porque as coisas já estão faltando lá em casa", este é o relato de Ana Carla, jovem de 17 anos, que vive com sua mãe e dois irmãos em uma comunidade em Maceió, capital de Alagoas.
A família de Ana Carla recebeu uma das 50 cestas básicas entregues, em junho deste ano, a famílias atendidas pelo Centro Social Madre Maria Rosa (CSMMR), no bairro Benedito Bentes, periferia da cidade.
Para Ivoneia Justino, de 44 anos, a cesta básica que recebeu significa ter comida na mesa para aqueles dias "complicados", onde já não havia mais mantimentos para ela e seus quatro filhos.
"Está bem difícil para lidar com tudo, pois tenho um filho doente e estamos vivendo com o auxílio [emergencial do Governo] para sobreviver. Hoje, inclusive, nós não tínhamos nada em casa. E esta cesta chegou em boa hora, pois só recebo no final do mês e já não tínhamos mais nada para nos alimentar", relata Ivoneia.
O único sustento
Segundo a coordenadora do Centro Social, Joana Pundyk, para muitas das famílias beneficiadas com a doação, a cesta é o único sustento que elas têm. “O desemprego está muito alto. Estas cestas são de fato necessárias e elas beneficiam não apenas estas famílias a quem estamos doando. Pois estas pessoas são muito solidárias e acabam ajudando também familiares e vizinhos. Quando alguém precisa, eles partilham o que tem”, conta Joana.
“Demos também cestas no ano passado e, normalmente, as mulheres vêm buscar à tarde. O almoço já passou, fizeram as tarefas de casa pela manhã, foram no posto de saúde e depois é que vinham buscar as cestas. Mas agora o que observamos foi diferente, veio uma turma grande no horário da manhã. Isso é um sinal que realmente estas famílias não têm nada em casa para se alimentar. Então elas vêm logo para terem algo para comer já no almoço”, explica Joana relatando a situação das famílias beneficiadas com as cestas básicas.

Food basket donations help dozens of families in Maceió
While vaccination against Covid-19 progresses slowly in the country, the pandemic opens wide and amplifies other social diseases that affect millions of Brazilians every year. Hunger is one of them, and it continues to be relentless with the most vulnerable across the country.
"My mother works only twice a week and what she earns is not enough. In fact, this food basket will help a lot, because things are already lacking at home", this is the report of Ana Carla, a 17-year-old girl , who lives with his mother and two brothers in a community in Maceió, capital of Alagoas.
Ana Carla's family received one of the 50 basic food baskets delivered, in June this year, to families assisted by the Madre Maria Rosa Social Center (CSMMR), in the Benedito Bentes neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city.
For 44-year-old Ivoneia Justino, the basic food basket she received means having food on the table for those "complicated" days, when there were no more supplies for her and her four children.
"It's very difficult to deal with everything, as I have a sick child and we are living with [emergency government] help to survive. Today, we even had nothing at home. And this basket arrived at a good time, as I only receive at the end of the month and we no longer had anything to feed us," says Ivoneia.
The only sustenance
According to the coordinator of the Social Center, Joana Pundyk, for many of the families benefiting from the donation, the basket is the only support they have. “Unemployment is very high. These baskets are really necessary and they benefit not only these families to whom we are donating. Because these people are very supportive and end up helping their families and neighbors as well. When someone needs it, they share what they have”, says Joana.
“We also gave away baskets last year and, normally, the women come to pick them up in the afternoon. Lunch was over, they did their homework in the morning, went to the health center and then they came to get the baskets. But now what we observed was different, a large group came in the morning. This is a sign that these families really don't have anything at home to feed. So they come right away to have something to eat for lunch”, explains Joana, reporting on the situation of the families benefiting from the basic food baskets.
