Desde abril a Associação Expedicionários da Saúde (EDS) encampa a Missão COVID-19, operação logística voluntária com o objetivo de oferecer melhores condições médicas e hospitalares no enfrentamento ao coronavírus. Até agora, a ONG instalou e equipou um Pronto Atendimento móvel que funcionou durante um mês oferecendo suporte ao Hospital das Clínicas da UNICAMP, e lidera a construção de um Hospital de Campanha de cuidados semi-intensivos, e 54 leitos já foram entregues à gestão da Prefeitura de Campinas/SP e estão em funcionamento.
“Nessa nova fase estamos nos dedicando quase que integralmente aos povos indígenas da Amazônia. Mantemos o envio periódico de materiais hospitalares e, principalmente, estamos viabilizando funcionamento de enfermarias na região do Alto Rio Negro”, afirma o Presidente da ONG Dr. Ricardo Affonso Ferreira.
Diante do agravamento da pandemia no norte do país, iniciamos a operação “S.O.S. Povos da Floresta”, cujo objetivo é oferecer suporte ao sistema público de saúde. Ao todo, a EDS já enviou diversas remessas de doações para as cidades de São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM), Itaituba (PA), entre outras, importantes polos de concentração de pacientes infectados pelo coronavírus. As cargas enviadas, cuja soma de valores já ultrapassa meio milhão de reais investidos pela ONG, continham medicamentos, insumos, EPIs, máscaras de mergulho adaptadas para uso em UTIs, cilindros e concentradores de oxigênio (distribuídos entre diversos polos de saúde – hubs), além de geradores de energia para abastecer os postos de saúde das aldeias mais afastadas.
De acordo com o Chefe de Operações Logísticas da instituição, Luis Macedo, o desafio é grande: “Transportar todo esse material para o norte do país tem sido uma tarefa difícil, pois, além do altíssimo custo de equipamentos, insumos hospitalares e transportes aéreos e fluviais, enfrentamos a escassez de produtos e serviços naquela região”, conclui Macedo.
Para dar continuidade a estas ações que minimizam o impacto da pandemia, buscamos parceiros que possam financiar novas remessas de auxílio humanitário, já que o norte é a região do país com os índices mais alarmantes de contaminação e mortes.
Todas as ações realizadas até agora na Missão COVID-19 têm sido custeadas unicamente com recursos próprios da ONG, provenientes de parcerias e doações de pessoas e empresas socialmente responsáveis e sem qualquer tipo de repasse financeiro governamental. Pela gestão e execução desta proposta a EDS não irá reter qualquer valor a título de remuneração ou custeio de nossa Associação.
EDS NGO takes humanitarian aid to the peoples of the Amazon
Since April, the Association of Health Expeditioners (EDS) has taken on the Mission COVID-19, a voluntary logistical operation with the objective of offering better medical and hospital conditions to fight the coronavirus. So far, the NGO has installed and equipped a mobile Emergency Service that worked for one month supporting the Hospital das Clínicas of UNICAMP, and leads the construction of a Campaign Hospital for semi-intensive care, and 54 beds have already been delivered to the management of the City Hall of Campinas / SP and are in operation.
“In this new phase, we are dedicating ourselves almost entirely to the indigenous people of the Amazon. We keep sending periodic hospital supplies and, above all, we are making it possible for wards to operate in the Alto Rio Negro region ”, says the President of the NGO Dr. Ricardo Affonso Ferreira.
In view of the worsening of the pandemic in the north of the country, we started the “S.O.S. Peoples of the Forest ”, whose objective is to support the public health system. Altogether, EDS has already sent several donations to the cities of São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM), Itaituba (PA), among others, important centers for the concentration of patients infected by the coronavirus. The loads sent, the sum of values already exceeds half a million reais invested by the NGO, contained medicines, supplies, PPE, diving masks adapted for use in ICUs, cylinders and oxygen concentrators (distributed among several health centers - hubs), as well as energy generators to supply health posts in the most remote villages.
According to the head of Logistics Operations at the institution, Luis Macedo, the challenge is great: “Transporting all this material to the north of the country has been a difficult task, because, in addition to the extremely high cost of equipment, hospital supplies and air and river transportation, we face the scarcity of products and services in that region ”, concludes Macedo.
To continue these actions that minimize the impact of the pandemic, we are looking for partners who can finance new remittances of humanitarian aid, since the north is the region of the country with the most alarming rates of contamination and deaths.
All the actions carried out so far in the COVID-19 Mission have been funded solely with the NGO's own resources, coming from partnerships and donations from socially responsible people and companies and without any type of government financial transfer. For the management and execution of this proposal, EDS will not retain any amount as remuneration or funding for our Association.
