Os desafios advindos com a Pandemia da Covid-19 foram enormes e ainda persistem. O acolhimento materializado através de um abraço apertado, característica principal do Centro Social Monsenhor Jessé (CSMJ), precisou ser posto de lado em virtude dos protocolos sanitários de distanciamento social. A refeição à mesa, deu lugar às quentinhas. O coração desejoso de cuidar e amar cada morador de rua sedento de fome, dilatou-se muito mais neste período, e a Divina Providência sempre esteve presente, nunca deixando faltar o mínimo necessário para saciar as necessidades de cada um desses pequeninos.
Alguns sentimentos acompanharam os membros do CSMJ desde o início de 2020. Num primeiro momento as notícias que chegavam sobre a Pandemia em outros locais do mundo assustavam, mas existia um pouco de ceticismo com a possibilidade da mesma atingir a realidade na qual o CSMJ estava inserido. Infelizmente, este pensamento primário estava errado e a chegada do vírus trouxe inúmeros reflexos para a vida de todos. A força de trabalho presente no CSMJ, composta por voluntários que enquadravam-se no grupo de risco, foi reduzida ao mínimo. Essa mudança foi duplamente desafiadora. Primeiro porque mãos que ajudavam na missão precisaram se ausentar. Segundo porque houve um acréscimo de serviços sobre os ombros daqueles que permaneceram. Mas, as obras do Senhor, apesar de apresentarem cruzes na caminhada e noites escuras, também possuem o dom de usar estas ferramentas e situações para trazer luz sobre as dificuldades e convertê-las em oportunidades de crescimento, confiança e entrega à Misericórdia Divina.
O amor de Deus providenciou novos voluntários e o serviço não parou. Por um breve tempo em 2020, as igrejas em Feira de Santana-Ba permaneceram fechadas, seguindo orientações das autoridades governamentais. O CSMJ, escancarou as suas portas, profeticamente configurando-se como uma Igreja em Saída, tão desejada pelo Santo Padre, o Papa Francisco. Os fiéis acolhidos por meio de um pão, uma quentinha, um kit de higiene, uma água, representam Jesus Pobre. Pessoas invisíveis para a sociedade, no seio do CSMJ ganham nome. Assucena, Sérgio, Márcia, Maressa, Giovani, vidas que se foram nesta pandemia, jamais serão esquecidas, uma vez que permanecem presentes na memória e no coração de todos do CSMJ.
A pandemia obrigou a sociedade utilizar máscaras visíveis. Contudo, antes da proliferação desse vírus, percebia-se muitas outras máscaras entre as pessoas. A máscara da indiferença, a máscara da falta de amor, a máscara do egoísmo. Todavia, existe algo muito mais profundo e real que ultrapassa qualquer máscara, a face. A face daqueles que amam, que se solidarizam com a dor do outro, que ajudam aos que mais precisam. E neste tempo de pandemia esta face do bem prevaleceu sobre todas as máscaras.
Agora, quase no fim de 2021, com boa parte da população imunizada percebe-se no horizonte um futuro melhor com o abrandamento da pandemia. Porém, os reflexos causados pela mesma, carecem de atenção e cuidado, pois a crise econômica e social oriundas deste tempo corroboraram para o aumento no número de pessoas que passam fome e isto pode ser observado diariamente na distribuição das quentinhas pelo CSMJ.
Deste modo, é necessário permanecer firme na missão de levar não apenas alimento físico, mas sobretudo amor a cada morador em situação de rua e seguir os ensinamentos que Cristo traz na Sagrada Escritura, como diz São Paulo na Carta aos Romanos, "...Pois sabemos que a tribulação produz a paciência, a paciência prova a fidelidade e a fidelidade, comprovada, produz a esperança. E a esperança não engana. Porque o amor de Deus foi derramado em nossos corações pelo Espírito Santo que nos foi dado." Rm. 5, 3-5.
The pandemic and challenges for the CSMJ
The challenges arising from the Covid-19 Pandemic were enormous and still persist. The welcoming materialized through a tight hug, the main feature of the Monsenhor Jessé Social Center (CSMJ), had to be put aside due to the health protocols of social distancing. The meal at the table gave way to the hot ones. The heart, desirous of caring for and loving each homeless person hungry for hunger, expanded much more during this period, and Divine Providence was always present, never missing the minimum necessary to satisfy the needs of each one of these little ones.
Some feelings followed the members of the CSMJ since the beginning of 2020. At first, the news that arrived about the Pandemic in other parts of the world was frightening, but there was a little skepticism about the possibility of it reaching the reality in which the CSMJ was inserted. Unfortunately, this primary thought was wrong and the arrival of the virus brought countless reflexes to everyone's lives. The workforce present at the CSMJ, made up of volunteers who fit into the risk group, was reduced to a minimum. This change was doubly challenging. First, because hands that helped in the mission needed to be absent. Second, because there was an increase in services on the shoulders of those who remained. But, the works of the Lord, despite showing crosses on the way and dark nights, also have the gift of using these tools and situations to shed light on difficulties and convert them into opportunities for growth, trust and surrender to Divine Mercy.
God's love provided new volunteers and the service did not stop. For a brief time in 2020, churches in Feira de Santana-Ba remained closed, following directions from government authorities. The CSMJ threw open its doors, prophetically configuring itself as a Church on the way out, so desired by the Holy Father, Pope Francis. The faithful welcomed by means of a bread, a hot dish, a hygiene kit, a water, represent Jesus the Poor. Invisible people to society, within the CSMJ gain a name. Assucena, Sérgio, Márcia, Maressa, Giovani, lives that are gone in this pandemic, will never be forgotten, as they remain present in the memory and in the hearts of all of the CSMJ.
The pandemic forced society to wear visible masks. However, before the spread of this virus, many other masks were perceived among people. The mask of indifference, the mask of lack of love, the mask of selfishness. However, there is something much deeper and more real that goes beyond any mask, the face. The face of those who love, who sympathize with the pain of the other, who help those who need it most. And in this time of pandemic, this face of good prevailed over all masks.
Now, towards the end of 2021, with a large part of the population immunized, a better future is perceived on the horizon with the slowdown of the pandemic. However, the consequences caused by it, lack attention and care, as the economic and social crisis arising from this time contributed to the increase in the number of people who are hungry and this can be observed daily in the distribution of hot drinks by the CSMJ.
In this way, it is necessary to remain firm in the mission of bringing not only physical food, but above all love to every homeless person and to follow the teachings that Christ brings in Sacred Scripture, as Saint Paul says in his Letter to the Romans, "... For we know that tribulation produces patience, patience proves faithfulness, and faithfulness, proven, produces hope. And hope does not deceive. Rm. 5, 3-5.
