The partnership between Sidarta Institute and the Henrique Dumont Villares State School started in 2017. Its primary objective is to invest in teacher training in Complex Instruction or Teaching for Equity (EpE) in mathematics.

The elementary school is located in the Jaguaré neighborhood and has approximately 850 students in two periods (morning and afternoon).

In the first year, training was carried out with teachers from first through third grades only. In 2018, training has been given to all 27 teachers (first through fifth grades).

Training sessions take place every two weeks and last approximately three hours each.

The theoretical basis for teachers’ training is Rachel Lotan's book "Designing Groupwork: Strategies for the Heterogeneous Classroom”. The goal is for teachers to recognize the benefits that groupwork brings to children's learning and to use the methodology increasingly more in their classroom.

At the same time, discussions with teachers are held on Mathematical Mindsets and emphasize that everyone can learn mathematics to high levels. For this discussion, the theoretical reference is Jo Boaler (the Stanford University professor who published the book  “Mathematical Mindsets: Unleashing Students’ Potential through Creative Math, Inspiring Messages and Innovative Teaching” and created www.youcubed.org).
